We communicate the new measures adopted by the Government of the Republic of El Salvador related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the advance of the COVID-19 virus in the world, and especially in Latin America, the Government of El Salvador has adopted emergency measures that include mandatory decrees, among which are the State of Emergency Decree and the Law of Temporary restriction of Constitutional Rights. The first allows resources from different State portfolios to be mobilized to respond to the emergency, and the second restricts the constitutional rights of association, freedom of transit in high-risk areas, the right of entry to Salvadoran territory for foreigners, and the right of assembly.

Given the confirmation of the first five cases of people with the virus, the Government of El Salvador, like other governments in the world, has imposed more drastic measures in the Executive Decree number 12 of the Executive Branch in the Health Branch, which constitutes extraordinary measures of prevention and containment to declare the national territory as an area subject to sanitary control, in order to contain the pandemic COVID-19, measures that include the total restriction of mobility for the population, excepting those people who in one way or another are fighting the advance of the virus in El Salvador, such as people in the public sector in the fields of health, public security, the army, migration and foreigners direction, the national direction of medicines and criminal centers direction, among others; and the private sector in the areas of textiles, call centers for food delivery, security services, aviation, agriculture and livestock, financial services and health laboratories, among others. These measures fully restrict the mobility of people who are not involved with the previously related items.
